Mediterranean Melodies – the new CD from Duo GlossArte

Mediterranean Melodies – the new CD from Duo GlossArte

Release: January 23, 2026, by Dabringhaus & Grimm

For the popes of the Renaissance and the princes of the Baroque, they were glittering status symbols. Today, Lea Suter and Juan González Martínez, as the Duo GlossArte, are bringing these sonic treasures back in a recording that combines the unmistakably delicate tone of the silver trombone with harpsichord and organ, creating a unique and instantly recognizable sound.

A musical journey around the Mediterranean – and into the first half of the 17th century

Mediterranean Melodies takes listeners on a journey through the soundscapes of an era in which virtuosity was not an end in itself, but rather an expression of status, education, and taste. GlossArte follows the great instrumental virtuosos of their time, highlights musical centers around the Mediterranean, and reveals how sophisticated and bold early 17th-century thinking already was: rhythmically pointed, richly ornamented, rhetorical—and full of color.

Silver trombone, harpsichord, organ: a rare combination with a magnetic effect

The lineup says it all. The silvery, slender sound of the trombone meets the depth and carrying power of historical keyboard instruments. The organ in particular opens up a spectrum that is not found in more familiar combinations: warm, expansive, yet transparent—a sound architecture that does not “accompany” the trombone, but rather builds a resonance chamber for it.

Why this CD is important now

This release sends a clear message: for the trombone as a solo instrument of the Renaissance and early Baroque periods, for historically informed ornamentation with the courage to express personality, and for a repertoire that is still too rarely released on recordings with this level of consistency and quality. Mediterranean Melodies closes a gap – and at the same time opens doors: for specialists as well as for curious listeners who want to rediscover the Mediterranean soundscape.
