Lea Suter Harpsichordist & Organist
Lea Suter is a harpsichordist, organist, and continuo specialist with an international concert career. Her artistic profile combines historically informed performance, scholarly depth, and refined musicianship on historical keyboard instruments. As both a soloist and ensemble musician, she creates concert programmes for harpsichord, organ, and clavichord with a clear focus on stylistic authenticity, tonal nuance, and the rediscovery of historical sound worlds.
Alongside her concert activity, Lea Suter brings extensive teaching experience at international institutions. She has served as a tutor at the International Organ and Clavichord Academy in Smarano and has taught at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague. This artistic and pedagogical work also shapes her musicianship: historically informed, stylistically precise, and vivid in communication.
A particular focus of her work lies in professional ensemble and continuo practice. Lea Suter approaches the harpsichord equally as a solo and continuo instrument — as a musical centre that supports structure, shapes colour, and connects ensembles at the highest level. Whether in chamber music, in collaboration with singers and instrumentalists, or as a soloist with baroque orchestra, Lea Suter stands for artistic excellence, historical awareness, and a distinctive musical voice in early music.
Instruments
Harpsichord
The ensemble sparked a love for the harpsichord as a continuo and solo instrument and a great search for timbres – Lea Suter plays a 16' harpsichord by Matthias Kramer.
Clavichord
Building her first clavichord at the age of 16 — it remains her companion to this day for playing historical keyboard instruments.

"And thirdly, much to my surprise and delight, because of the combined sound of the silvery tone of the trombone and the full-bodied timbre of the organ. You have to hear it for yourself to appreciate its warm and exquisite sonority. It is distinctly different from comparable recordings, and I believe that not only the quality of Martinez's trombones plays a decisive role, but also the eloquence with which he treats his instruments. After careful consideration, I now prefer this combination to the more popular combination of organ and trumpet. In summary, this release fills an important gap in the repertoire. The outstanding mastery of the musicians, coupled with MDG's sophisticated sound engineering, will undoubtedly delight even the most discerning audience, whether trombone and organ players or simply curious listeners. “ (HRAudio.net) ”The two skilled performers, who listen well to each other, enliven their playing with brisk tempos and period-appropriate ornamentation, bringing not only technical skill but also temperament to the table. ... In addition to their technical dexterity and stylistic confidence, they also demonstrate a sparkling joy in playing." (Klassik heute)
